Course description
Clinical and Molecular Parasitology and Mycology (C1F5234) is a dynamic and immersive mini-conference course designed for students passionate about infectious diseases, global health, and cutting-edge biomedical research. Hosted by the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at Karolinska Institutet, this 1.5 HEC course combines traditional learning with innovative seminar formats to expose students to the latest advancements in the study of parasites and fungal pathogens. Throughout the week-long course, participants will engage with renowned experts and emerging voices from both Sweden and overseas. The seminar sessions cover a diverse range of topics, including the molecular mechanisms of parasite infection, genomic organization in unicellular parasites, and novel approaches in AI-assisted structural vaccinology. Lecturers provide expert views into subjects ranging from immune modulation and pathogen genomics to vector biology and clinical implications of parasitic infections.
The course is structured to encourage active participation and networking, with sessions offered both via Zoom and on campus (Solna). This hybrid format not only ensures accessibility but also supports a collaborative environment where students can interact with peers and faculty. By the end of the course, students will have gained an integrative understanding of the clinical and molecular aspects of parasitology and mycology, preparing them to translate advanced techniques into their own research projects.
