Course description

Purpose:

This course focuses on the application of epidemiological methodology to understand and evaluate risk factors for common cardiovascular diseases.

Content:

The course introduces basic epidemiological concepts and common epidemiological study designs such as cohort studies, case-control studies, and cross-sectional studies. Potential sources of bias will be discussed using practical examples. Basic concepts in cardiovascular medicine will also be introduced.

Established cardiovascular risk factors will be briefly reviewed, while great emphasis will be placed on discussion of epidemiological evidence for emerging cardiovascular risk factors. Both primary and secondary prevention perspectives are included.

The course includes lectures, group work and seminars.

The course is organized as a collaboration between the two doctoral programmes Cardiovascular Research and Epidemiology.
