Course description
This course will give PhD students an introduction to and an overview of what health economics is, what types of health economic analyses can be applied, how costs can be calculated, and what basic models are used. Moreover, the strengths and limitations of the Quality-adjusted life year (QALY) as a widely used measure will be presented. To gain some insights into modelling the seminar will be complemented with hands-on sessions. At the end of the seminar, attendees should have gained a basic idea of the principles of health economic evaluations and its shortcomings. They will learn how to build certain models, conduct health economic evaluations using Excel, and interpret the subsequent results for evidence-based decision-making.

1) the relevance of the course syllabus for the applicant’s individual study plan/research (according to written motivation).
2) start date of doctoral studies (priority given to earlier start date).
